Adventure Training forms an essential part of the Air Cadet''s training syllabus. As well as helping cadets forge new friendships, adventure training enables all cadets to show off their leadership qualities.
There is a wide ranging Adventure Training syllabus in the ACO - depending on the squadron you attend, you could try your hand at watersports, skiing.
Remember, whatever your tastes, nothing is compulsory. If it''s more your cup of tea to go flying, or perhaps try your hand at aircraft recognition, perhaps you might want to look elsewhere on the site - otherwise, try a few of the options on the left, and see what you could experience.

Courses
A number of adventure training courses are available to cadets throughout the year. These include camps at the Air Cadet Adventure Training Centres at Llanbedr & Windemere. Squadron run courses in AT are also available.
Courses are also available for Staff, Instructor Cadets & cadets in a number of activities, all of which work towards a qualification from a National Governing Body. The HQAC Course list is available here. Please see a member of staff for further details.
Trekking & Hill walking
Trekking & hill walking are both excellent ways of maintaining fitness. They also give cadets an opportunity to put skills learned in the classroom - such as navigation & meteorology - into practice in a challenging environment. For junior cadets we aim to give them an insight into adventure training and enable them to get to grips with the basics. For senior cadets we increase the pressure slightly, giving them more challenging situations - testing their accuracy over longer distances, or allowing them to step forward and lead a group whilst the staff member observes.
Climbing
Climbing can be a highly rewarding sport. It works well to exercise all parts of your body, by developing upper body strength through gripping, and encouraging muscular development in the legs through balancing.
Newbury squadron are lucky enough to have a qualified climber, AWO Lowe, who holds a Single Pitch Award. ASgt Harding and Plt Off Rowan are also training for their SPA qualifications. This enables the squadron to run a Climbing project, which enables cadets to develop their techniques for climbing and increases their familiarity with the equipment.
We regularly go climbing at local climbing walls, both inside and outside, as well as "live rock" at Symmond''s Yat in the Forest of Dean. We are also planning a trip to "Go Ape" to make use of their climbing & high ropes course.
Orienteering
Orienteering is an excellent sport, which combines accurate navigation with physical fitness. It is relatively new to the squadron, but is something we hope to develop over the coming months due to access to several excellent Orienteering sites in our local area.
