Sports

Like sports? Love being an Air Cadet! Although there is no minimum level of fitness required to be a cadet, we encourage participation in the many sporting events the squadron competes in. This ranges from parade night activities to inter-cadet service competitions!

Locally we use local sports halls or fields to conduct games and training, go swimming on squadron nights at our local pool where you can achieve all three levels of your RAF swimming proficiencies.

There are a number of inter-squadron sports challenges. Athletics (held in may) is a popular activity for many cadets, as they get to show off their sporting prowess, enthusiasm and competitive edge to the rest of Berkshire and Oxfordshire. We have previously won the event as a whole, with cadets competing in and winning many of the individual events, such as 100m, shot putt, javelin etc. on a number of occasions.

The same style of competition is also held for swimming, another area the squadron historically does well in. On more than one occasion we have returned triumphant, with cadets getting medals for their events and the squadron winning trophies.

In addition to this, there are five a side football tournaments, Hockey, Netball, Football and Rugby teams to play in representing the Thames Valley area, and a Cross Country competition.

If you really excel, you could represent the whole of the South West Region (Plymouth and Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire, Bristol and Gloucester, Thames Valley and Hampshire and the Isle of Wight) against the other Regions of the ATC, and if good enough, represent the ATC itself against the Army Cadet Force and Sea Cadet Corps!
