After an intensive weekend learning about radio procedures, protocols, phonetics and pro-words, four Newbury Air Cadets are now well on the way to achieving their Communicators Award, as well as being holders of their Full VHF Operator certificates.
The course, held at RAF Uxbridge, brought together cadets from across the Thames Valley, and was very successful, teaching the cadets the basics of Radio Communications through demonstrations, presentations, lectures and practical exercises.
Warrant Officer Steve Pye, the Squadron Communications Officer who helped direct the course, said “The Cadets all did very well, demonstrating good solid progress throughout the course, and all being awarded their VHF Operator certificates.”
“Communications is an essential tool for cadets to learn – we encourage cadets to pursue this training across a range of mediums and technology. The training provides valuable practical lessons in information handling and management, develops interpersonal skills and meets one of the Corps prime objectives: 'providing training useful in both civilian and military life'.”
