First Aid is a key element of training for staff & cadets alike within the Air Cadet Organization – and this weekend saw staff members from across Thames Valley Wing putting a new slant on their existing skills!
This weekend Warrant Officer Steve Pye attended an Expedition First Aid course run at RAF Halton. It was very much a hands on First Aid Course designed to cope with the challenges presented where access to conventional medical service might not be immediately available. It is primarily aimed at staff members undertaking adventure training and expedition activities, who will not necessarily have immediate access to medical or ambulance services.
The course is recognized by the Mountain Leader Training England – England’s prime adventurous training organization - and other outdoor activities organisations. It covered a number of areas, with the specific focus on the provision of emergency medical aid in hostile environments where improvisation is key.
WO Pye, a First Aid trainer & assessor by trade, said "This is an excellent course and is highly recommended for those Staff Members who are keen on AT and could well find themselves presented with challenging situations. It really encourages you to think outside the box - applying your existing first aid knowledge to situations where you might have limited resources"
