November brings with it an opportunity for a Newbury Air Cadets to sit their classification exams. This year was particularly successful, with a number of cadets sitting their Leading, Senior and Staff I classification exams.
Each of the exams counts towards a BTEC in Aviation Studies, an academic award which reflects the knowledge and experiences gained through being an Air Cadet.
In this session of exams the following subjects were studied: Leading: Basic Navigation, Principles of Flight, Airmanship II; Senior & Staff I: Propulsions, Airframes, Operational Flying, Aircraft Handling.
The 4 candidates who passed were Cadet's McKay and Ward, Sergeant Dunwell and Flight Sergeant Hobbs. Sgt Dunwell who's completion of Staff Part I marks the conclusion of his BTEC course. He now has only the Staff Part II interview which will see him rise to the academic pinnacle of his cadet career.
Squadron training officer Flying Officer Chris Tocher commented "This is a great achievement for all the Cadets and NCO's who have all worked hard to pass these exams. It is also a credit to the lecturers and their excellent training that these cadets have passed."
The next classification exams are in March 2007, and will see a much larger group of cadets sitting the examinations.
